Flood Advisory

Effective: Wednesday, September 12, 2018 - 10:41am to 1:30pm

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood advisory for... The island of Maui in Maui County

* Until 1230 PM HST.

* At 924 AM HST, radar showed that heavy rainfall has developed along the southeastern slopes of Haleakala from Ulupalakua to Hana. Peak rain rates were around one inch per hour. This rainfall is expected to continue for several more hours. Streams also are running high along the windward slopes of the island from earlier rainfall.

* This advisory has been expanded to include the entire island of Maui. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1230 PM HST if heavy rain persists. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for Maui County through Thursday night.
Notes (optional):

A Flood Advisory, previously called an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory, means nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent.

Warning Instruction:
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
