Flood Advisory

Effective: Wednesday, February 14, 2018 - 2:22am to 5:15am

...THE FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 245 AM HST FOR THE ISLAND OF OAHU IN HONOLULU COUNTY... At 1245 AM HST...radar showed clusters of moderate to heavy showers moving over the eastern half of Oahu, with rainfall rates around one inch per hour. Showers were primarily affecting the area east of a line from the airport to Punaluu. With showers moving in from the south, many locations in town can expect periods of very heavy rain that will lead to low visibility and ponding of water. Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Honolulu, Kalihi, Aiea, Halawa, Fort Shafter, Nuuanu, Waimalu, Salt Lake, Waimanalo, Palolo, Pali Highway, Likelike Highway and H-3. A flash flood watch remains in effect.

A Flood Advisory, previously called an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory, means nuisance flooding is occurring or imminent.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
